LET’S TALK SHINGLES

Now that Spring is underway, our projects are heading up and out…onto your roofs. While roofing needs may vary from house to house due to structure and style, we most often find ourselves working with asphalt shingles for a few reasons:

OPTIONS

You’ve got plenty of choices when it comes to your shingles. Two of the most popular styles are 3-tab and architectural.

  • Three-tab shingles are designed in a way that one piece looks like three separate shingles.
  • Architectural shingles are thicker and less uniform, adding a more dimensional appearance.

AESTHETIC

When asphalt shingles first became popular, they were only available in two colors: green or black. Today, however, a homeowner has several options to choose from, from classic black to natural earth tones and even reds, blues, and greens. Modern shingle roofing can also be textured to mimic slate, wood, or tile—making the roof safer and lower maintenance without sacrificing the style that you’re looking for.

LIGHTWEIGHT

An important consideration for any roof is the weight. Depending on the age or construction of your roof, your home may not be able to support certain materials, especially heavy ones like clay tiles or slate. Luckily, asphalt shingles are incredibly light and work with most homes.

COST AND DURABILITY

Shingles are typically cheaper than other roofing materials due to the fact that they’re created in bulk by manufacturers. Combined with the fact that they can last anywhere from 10 – 30+ years, you’re making an extremely sound investment in your home, from the ground up.
