This sweet Simsbury home was built in the 50's and had a kitchen with authentic 50's elements. Our clients wanted to open up the kitchen to the dining room to gain some extra space and a more convenient floor plan, but also wanted to retain some of the kitchen's 50's charm.

We kept the kitchen's authentic 1950's cabinets with their unique faces and angled toe-kick, while updating them by removing the window valance and giving them a fresh coat of paint and hardware. We gave the rest of the kitchen a fresh look by updating the countertop, appliances and flooring.

On the opposite side, we removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room and extended the new tile throughout to tie the spaces together.

One of the most enjoyable parts of this project was building a kitchen island to match the 50's cabinets, and reworking some of the original cabinets to accommodate a new dishwasher. One of our carpenters worked for years in historic restoration and we filmed the process of building and matching these, tap the button to see the process!

This was a challenging and fun process and we love the final result! Tap the button to see it come together.
