Our clients were looking for a kitchen upgrade while retaining their unique 50's cabinets. We built this island from scratch, matching the rest of the kitchen...

This sweet 50's kitchen is original to this Simsbury home, and while our client's were ready for an update, they wanted to retain the history of the home in some way. We worked with them to update the look of some things while keeping the cabinets themselves. We removed the window valance, swapped out the cabinet handles for modern ones, swapped out the original hinges for hidden slow-close hinges, updated countertop, sink and backsplash, and painting the cabinets a beautiful slate blue.

On the other side of the room, we opened the wall to the dining room but retained a feeling of distinction between the two rooms with a custom-built island. This piece, as well as the left side of the under-counter cabinets were completely custom made. These were a real challenge and treat to build, as the original cabinets has a unique face profile, and unique angled toe-kick to match.

Our amazing carpenters are always up to a challenge and did an amazing job matching these details to perfection - it is hard to tell the difference between the originals and the new cabinetry!

The island above and the cabinets below were made from scratch - the set below was transformed from drawers and a larger cabinet to accommodate the new dishwasher.

We love the way this project turned out - anytime we are able to fuse a modern update with historic restoration it's a real treat.
